While maintaining a broad focus, we apply a risk-conscious underwriting process that limits the volume of investments we make.  Avodah prioritizes charting a clear path to adding value through risk mitigation, operational improvements, and/or asset modifications. Our awareness of risk factors drives us to be conservative in our acquisition pricing unless we believe we have unique ability to mitigate these risks.

Todd JOHNSON, CFA

As a co-founder of Avodah Group, Todd brings his deep and diverse real estate and private equity experience to serve investors and lead deal origination, underwriting, and capitalization.  Todd’s passion is to serve both investors and entrepreneurs through connecting purpose driven capital with missioned aligned opportunities and entrepreneurs that together foster flourishing. Todd has underwritten and completed complex real estate and private equity investments across multiple asset types including industrial properties, retail centers, multi-family development and acquisition, office, agricultural and timber holdings, debt/loan purchases, and operating company growth capital and recapitalizations. Todd has led or played a key role in sourcing, capitalizing, and managing over $500 million in total deal capitalization across over 50 investments during his career.

From 2015-2017, Todd was a principal and joint-venture partner for investors on multiple separately funded real estate investments. Previously, he was a Vice President at Resource Land Holdings, a Denver-based real estate private equity firm with over $500 million under management and portfolio holdings across North America (as of 2015) where he began his career in 2005. 

Todd, a CFA charter holder, graduated magna cum laude from Wheaton College in 2002. Todd has a passion for serving missional businesses and marketplace non-profits including Israel First Fruits, an organization training entrepreneurs in Israel, who Todd serves as the chair of the US Board. Todd lives in Denver, CO with his wife of 20 years and four children and enjoys time with his family skiing, hiking, running, and traveling.

Carrie Levy

Carrie is the founder and President of Windy River Investments and co-founder of Avodah Group. She has successfully managed board recruitment, stakeholder negotiations, and capital raises. Carrie was responsible for the transformation and expansion of her family’s agricultural business into non-farm real estate investments across several verticals. She guided a process by which company profits outperformed the market since inception and yet remained at the continual service of family needs. She strategically guided the family generational transition by directing the company mission, vision, and values and collaborating with family members on the business philosophy. 

Carrie is a graduate of Oregon State University and has remained involved in the greater farming community of Northeastern Oregon through various service-oriented roles and philanthropic initiatives. Carrie has a specific interest in children with learning differences and their outcomes, including mental health. She is a former Board of Trustee for a school that addresses children with learning differences and remains on the finance committee.

Carrie is a mom to five boys.

John Ikalowych

With a background spanning private equity, real estate development, entrepreneurship, banking, and insurance, John has a broad background in multiple facets of business. John has spent over two decades in finance and risk management including private equity, commercial banking, and insurance.  He also has served as an investor, operator, and board member to numerous private companies and real estate investments. John is currently a partner at Avodah Group.

John holds a Master of Business Administration from the Franciscan University of Steubenville.  He is an industry thought leader in the business acquisition space, has been featured on numerous podcasts, and is a mentor in the Searchfunder and Entrepreneurship through Acquisition communities.  He supports several faith-based and military veteran organizations. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children while fishing, skiing, and hunting in the Colorado and Wyoming outdoors.

Jesse McDowell

As a Partner at Avodah Group Jesse brings a diverse background of executive leadership in real estate development and private equity investment. During his 25-year career he has led the underwriting, entitlement, financing and development of complex real estate projects across multiple asset classes in markets throughout the US.

After graduating from Wheaton College (IL) with a BA in Business & Economics, he began his career developing real estate with Colorado Realty Consultants. In 2005 he founded Ascent Development Inc. expanding relationships with capital partners and leading the creation of large-scale mixed-use projects to create immense investor value. In 2012 Jesse joined Resource Land Holdings, a Denver based natural resource private equity firm where he worked closely with high performing operating partners on the acquisition, management, development and disposition of tens of thousands of acres throughout the US creating significant shareholder value for LPs.

Jesse is married to Cynthia and they are parents to three teenagers. He is passionate about supporting numerous faith-based and education organizations and enjoys mountain biking and snowboarding in the Colorado outdoors, motorcycle adventures and traveling with family.
